Marketing Trends for 2023
Leveraging trends can give you a definite competitive advantage in business, and that’s why we’re sharing with you some of the top marketing trends for 2023.
The world has seen a lot of change over the past several years. People — specifically their preferences and expectations — have changed. How consumers interact with brands has changed.
If it’s to be effective, your marketing has to acknowledge these changes.
In order to do this, you must know your customers on a deeper level that goes beyond simple demographics. This means having data on things like shopping and buying preferences, online communities they belong to, social causes important to them, where they consume media, etc.
This isn’t new. It’s always been important.
But now, it’s become vital.
Having a system in place to collect and handle this data so that it can inform your marketing decisions is the basic foundation of highly effective data-driven marketing. And now more than ever before marketers are using powerful CRM (customer relationship management) software to track and organize data.
In addition to the fact that data has become so vital to successful marketing, research done by HubSpot has them predicting the following as the top marketing trends for 2023:
Top Marketing Trends for 2023
- Short-Form Video Content (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.)
- Influencer Marketing
- Social Media DMs for Customer Service
- Website SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
- Content that Reflects Brand Values (for example, social responsibility, sustainability, etc.)
Short-Form Video
HubSpot’s research shows that one out of three marketers is already using short-form video. And 21% of survey respondents said they plan to start using it for the first time in 2023.
90% say they plan to increase or maintain their investment in short-form video in 2023.
The research also shows that short-form video is the most effective and has the highest ROI from any of the other marketing tactics being used.
Influencer Marketing
Research shows that one out of every four marketers use influencer marketing, and it is the trend with the second highest ROI.
89% say they plan to increase or maintain their investment in influencer marketing in 2023.
Social Media DMs for Customer Service
Using social media DMs (direct messages) for customer service came in as third highest in terms of ROI, and while 29% are currently using this tactic, another 15% are planning to use it for the first time in 2023.
87% say they plan to increase or maintain their investment in using social media DMs for customer service in 2023.
Website SEO
Using a website — especially one with a blog — to attract consumers, generate new leads, and convert more sales isn’t new, but because it’s so effective, it continues to be a top marketing trend for 2023.
29% of marketers are already using SEO as part of their marketing strategy, and 88% plan to increase or maintain their investment in 2023.
Content that Reflects Brand Values

It has the fifth highest ROI, and 89% plan to increase or maintain their investment in this kind of content in 2023.
