Why WordPress is Better Than Squarespace
Choosing a platform on which to build your website is a big decision and it requires quite a bit of research. WordPress is the most used content management system (CMS) in the world and Squarespace is growing each year. So how do you choose between the two? Let us help you. Choose WordPress. And here’s why.
- WordPress give you hosting options
- WordPress has more flexibility
- WordPress allows unlimited pages
- WordPress has more theme options
- WordPress doesn’t charge you to sell things on your website
When using WordPress, you can choose where you want to host your website. There are a lot of options out there for hosting with competitive pricing. If you go with Squarespace, you have to host on Squarespace’s servers. So if your website becomes popular, you won’t be able to scale your site later. Squarespace limits the amount of traffic your website can receive. If it starts getting too much traffic, they can shut down your website at any time.
If you want to make a change to the theme you chose for your WordPress site, you can! There are also a lot of page builders that you can use with WordPress that makes it easy to make specific changes to your website without having to know any code. Squarespace, on the other hand, doesn’t have that flexibility. You can’t make any changes to the theme code in a Squarespace template. You’re stuck with what you’ve got.
Being able to add as many pages as you want is especially important for SEO. To rank highly in Google searches, you need to be constantly putting out new content on your website. Blog posts tend to rank more quickly for a short period of time while landing pages take longer to rank but will hold their position for longer. Squarespace only offers up to 20 pages on their personal plan and you have to upgrade to add more pages.
WordPress offers over 3,000 free themes for you to use. If you don’t find one you like, there are thousands more available for purchase and even ones that are specific to your industry. Squarespace has 59 themes and if you want an eCommerce theme, then you only have 8 to choose from.
A WordPress site can become an eCommerce website with a plugin. There are plugins out there that don’t charge transaction fees and WordPress doesn’t take a cut out of your sales. Squarespace charges a transaction fee every time you make a sale unless you want to pay more for an upgraded plan.
These are just a few of the reasons why WordPress is a better option than Squarespace. At WorldLight Media, we use WordPress to build websites for our clients because it allows us to give our clients exactly what they want.
